Making the most of the Power Shift Plan is about shifting as much of your power use from peak to off-peak times, night and the weekends as possible.
7am - 11am and 5pm - 9pm
During these hours, electricity rates are higher due to increased demand. It's best to minimise the usage of high-energy appliances during these times.
11am - 5pm and 9pm - 11pm
During these hours, electricity rates are lower than peak hours. This is a good time to run appliances like washing machines, dishwashers and vacuum cleaners.
11pm - 7am
This is the most affordable time to use electricity. A good time to charge EV’s or anything with a battery.
Make small changes to your daily routine, such as cooking larger meals at once or using a slow cooker, to reduce peak hour energy consumption.
Run major appliances like washing machines, dryers and dishwashers during off-peak times. Schedule tasks such as the laundry, vacuuming the house, washing dishes and cooking during off-peak hours when rates are lower.
Charge devices and batteries overnight. Plug in phones, laptops, and other devices overnight to take advantage of the lowest rates. This is a good time to charge EV's or large equipment with batteries.
Ensure everyone in your home is aware of the Power Shift plan and the different hours and make sure they understand how to adjust their usage to align with off-peak hours.
Track your usage via My Account to regularly review your energy usage patterns to see how well you align with off-peak hours.
